Since the laparoscope was applied to gynecological field, laparoscopic surgical technique has been developed with increasing use of laparoscope surgery as an adjunct to the diagnosis and treatment. Advanced laparoscopic instrumentation and camera technology also have resulted in improved quality of visual image and laparoscopic surgical technique.
This first atlas and video DVD aim to provide the pelvic surgeon with an updated overview of pelvic anatomy and laparoscopic procedures in the various hysterectomies. Recognition of pelvic anatomy is necessary for appropriate laparoscopic surgery. This atlas is designed to improve the understanding and accelerate the learning of laparoscopic procedures in the various hysterectomies, using full color photographs, and is accompanied by video DVDs of live surgical footage with written commentary. Actual surgical footages are included on two accompanying video DVDs run over five hours and a half. The reader is able to review all of the procedures with full color photographs and then view selected procedure on video. This atlas presents my current preferred methods for performing the various hysterectomies based on my experience and available inexpensive instruments such as unipolar scissor and bipolar forceps.
I hope that this atlas and video DVDs will not only provide the pelvic surgeon with an interesting pelvic anatomy and laparoscopic surgery, but also be a useful teaching aid for the pelvic surgeon in practicing.
